Barbara, I have not been able to find your posts in "Che's Lounge".....how do I read them? The last ones I found there were very early ones and these recent ones are not coming up for some reason? What am I doing wrong?

Forgive me for the multiple postings - I can't get the video to embed. Have any of you seen the music doc "It Might Get Loud"? I highly recommend seeing it preferably in a theater
If anyone else has seen it and wants to discuss, we can start a discussion here.

I'm sorry I've been slacking on the films! Here's an 8 minute one on a 70 something year old Chinese woman who does hip hop in Beijing. It reminded me how much I'd like to go back and visit.

Kelly - thanks for getting this conversation started. I am looking forward to watching the film and responding to what you've said here. Could you copy your comments about the film here so we can archive the film's discussion. You've gotten me excited to watch it now!

Standing in the Shadows of Motown
-Was happy they gave a nod to Louis ( "That Chick's Too Young to Fry") Jordan who is a personal favorite.
-Great On the Road annecdotes
-Wonderful singers who sang the standards for this film.
-Nice filming. Particularly loved the intro to the film
Is a two disc film. Have only seen first and can't wait to see second-- extra footage, more songs, etc
This film makes you appreciate every unsung hero- every talented musician who is out there playing for love and little money, gig to gig
- It was as hard then to get paid after a gig in a club as it is now.
-Who knew that "Lottie the Body" had such a profound influence on teh Motown classics we know and love today-- you will have to watch the film to find out why!

Standing in the Shadows of Motown. Every one of us needs to see this film if only to honor these musicians. The Funk Brothers are
the river that flowed behind every top Motown hit. Think of the lead in and the music behind "My Girl." What would that song be without the music? The saddest thing: One day, the Funk brothers showed up to record as usual. THERE WAS A SIGN ON THE DOOR that Motown had moved, overnight, to LA! and someone forgot to tell the Funk Brothers! They had to learn by a sign on a door! They deserve to be revered, every one of them. We looked up this film, made in 2002, and it made peanuts. Which means so many still have not seen it. Everyone of us should see it and dance and enjoy the tales, so that every time we hear "Bernadette" or "Get Ready" or " YOu Can't Hurry Love," we know.

Holy Guacomole Batman!
I have a copy of "Be Here to Love Me" and "The Devil and Daniel Webster". I am aiming for the Framti film also. Meanwhile....I am playing catchup on life and commitments....new endeavors and friends....and keeping my eye on Docutunes....won't be in film discussion for a couple more months......the way they are flying by, I'm sure it will feel like "around the corner" see y'all then,
cheers,
Pat

In. Just got a copy at the library.
Rainy day, husband under the weather...
making up a batch of popcorn and about to dive into
the Motown Sound. Back of DVD case reads:
" Hitsville, USA: Detroit, Michigan, 1959. Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from the city's thriving jazz and blues scene for his new record company: Motown. They called themselves the Funk Brothers, and they were the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music. This is their story." Looks like a good one.
( side note, Double score-Also had "Playing for Change" at the library.)
