There is so much celebration of family and love in " Kate Taylor : Tunes from the Tipi and other Songs from Home ! "

Hello all,
The history, love and music from Songs from the Tipi are really unique for me. I don't have a DVD of another artist that so warmly captures the artist and her family. Liz and Ken have really highlighted the pure loving, FUN soul of Kate Taylor...and the Taylor family. I've only watched it twice so I'm sure more will soak in...but first off I love the home movies..And may I say..beautiful children every single one! Obviously KT has not changed a bit!.

I think of mine own family; 5 girls 2 boys and tons of fun growing up.

I do have a question and may have missed the reference on the DVD....Where was the gig filmed where Kate and band are in concert and Kate has those fierce braids?

The credits say it's the Center For Contemporary Music !

Hi Bill! Thanks for your feedback. For some reason I'm just seeing these comments for the first time today - sorry to be so long in responding! We are so touched that people connect with the video and with Kate. I think her spirit is leaping through the film, which is exciting!

That concert was filmed on the island, in the barm at the campus of The Contemporary Music Center, a school run by our friend Warren Pettit for juniors in college.

I just watched DVD in some quiet time/ privacy and some random thoughts jotted down-

First off, amazing job by Liz and Ken..
So beautifully filmed and framed. So thoughtfully assembled and artfully woven

Feel very much in awe of Trudy Taylor, in particular. She is so lovely and clear and loving.
You very much feel that she resepcted her children, as much as loved them.
( and I am in dire desire for her indoor garden space and greenhouse)

What a privilage to be privvy to this peak under the proverbial Tipi ...

loved the family shots in the beginning-- how limber was James, what fancy footwork... how great that Livingston was flying things around even then..(love Trudy Taylor's line about adding more oil...). How wonderful to come to better know Alex. How handsome he was even then. And Hugh! Great shots! Love how Livingston mugs it up for the camera and James is so much the same soul that he is now...True to himself!.. and Kate can hang with them best of them. Great line about how it prepared you for touring.

The sailing shots were so much like our own home movies that it brought out tears and longing-- Dr Isaac Taylor, lounging at the helm...
Of course, the fashions, cars, you name it, so strangely famililar ...

(Loved Kate's early years hairdos..) Love all of her clothes and beads and wampum throughout.

Loved the tender shots of the family den and Dr Taylor playing cards

Q: who was the tall dark haired guy who appears with the brothers at one point?

Could move into that house this second. Love how it is such a part of the trees and the land- who designed it? Was a very progressive look for the time, yes? Love it.

Loved the mimieograph machine ! of the school performance. Such a sign of the times. and priceless

Want that T Shirt.. Sister Kate on the front, "Thanks" on the back. You were so amazingly soulfully- yourself cool then, as now. One of a kind..

Think that Kate should write a song called ( tea with) "Milk and two sugars."
(!!! the teacups!!!! :)

Happy to hear about Danny Kortchmar in there as well as Peter Ascher.
Happy to have come to know Charlie Witham through this film. How handsome he was
and what great songs he wrote and inspired. What a lovely family you were/are.

Beautiful family shots, throughout.

Amazing, the clip of Liv and Kate... almost too sacred to discuss here-- and a very special someone in there as well.. the siinging.. superb. Livingston has the most beautiful tone

Breath-takingly beautiful family photos and so happy to hear of the legacy living on and taking new shape and form. So happy to have seen all the children of the next generation, singled out, one by one -- most particularly Aretha and Aquinnah as well as Liz. My suggestion is to expand the series to do the next film about them!

Kate Taylor, Billy Derby, Sam Zucchini and Dave Anderson are just in perfect form. Every song is amazing

This film is just so fun to watch. Of course, it also celebrates the beauty of Martha's Vineyard-- the unchanged beauty-- the beauty of the landscapes, the cliffs, the dunes, the surf, the lighthouse and the roads, as well as the beauty of the culture, the people and the musical traditions of the Island.

Thanks so much to Liz and Ken..to all the band, the Taylors and to Kate-- and, when you think about it, most of all to Trudy and Dr Isaac for this wonderful family. It is evident ,throughout, that the family members love and respect one another and this has to have come from Trudy and the respect and love she sewed among her children for themselves and for one another.

As a mother, I can tell you that Trudy has set the bar high!

What a wonderful tribute of a daughter and son -in -law for such an amazing mother, artist and person who is Kate Taylor. May God Bless and may the home fires burn brightly and the stars shine brightly through the top of the Tipi...and may Taylor Tunes from the Tipi keep coming!

Kelly!
Thanks for your wonderful words. The encouragement from all of you is much appreciated! The tall guy in the film, I believe, is Louis Perlmutt, but Kate is going to have to confirm that when she gets back from her little trip.

The home movie footage really is nostalgic for me, as well, even though I was not alive at that time.

Isn't it wonderful to see Trudy? What a matriarch!

Thank you for taking the time to share all of your thoughts. All of the feedback means so much to me.

It is wonderful to see Trudy Taylor and what a joy to have these remarkable home movies play during Kate's song " The Sun Did Shine ! "

I heart all my docutunes friends! Thank you for all the kind and generous comments on the film. It is so good to hear your impressions.
The friend in some of that old footage is in fact Louis Perlmutt. He was our next door neighbor and a very close friend of all of the family. He became a doctor, and his practice was radiology. He died several years ago from cancer. Do you remember the words in Liv's song, "Carolina Day": "....and Louis my best friend he falls on by we're all together again..." That's him.
It was Trudy who designed that house, with an architect and with dad too, I am sure. I will find out the architect's name, and further details about if for you.
Mom will be very pleased to hear of your impressions of her and her growing things, plant and human!
I'm just back from my little trip to Mississippi. I will be blogging about it later.
Meantime, Love with milk and two sugars,
Kate
