This holiday season, we @ DocuTunes.TV are promoting the idea of giving the "gift of music" of an independent artist to everyone on your list. Not only is a gift of music appropriate, thoughtful, and affordable - it is also truly the gift that keeps giving. The giver helps turn other people on to great artists they might not learn about otherwise, while at the same time supporting the artist…
I have just read excerpts from the new publication, Avalon. It is filled cover to cover(as far as I can see online from its website and FB page) and has so much to offer........I HAD to share with everyone here. In it, a beautiful piece by Nancy Aronie, and a deeply moving piece by Kate Taylor, with photos by Liz Witham. Give yourself a gift, read and subscribe to this joie de vivre on paper.
I had the BEST 4th ever.....I met a friend along Laurel Canyon Blvd. where we joined folks lined up along the street to watch the fireworks going off at CBS in Studio City. I had a little flag on a stick in my car, left from Rocky D's concert and on my way back to my car, I met a family of 4 adults from Dubai. The women all wore traditional head cover. The gentleman did not speak any english, and his wife, a doctor, had been in San Diego to attend a conference. They had been waiting for a taxi… Continue

NPR has been gracious enough to post the sets from Bonnaroo this year...the list includes the Avett Brothers, Punch Brothers, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Regina Spector, and Dave Matthews. Personally, I was excited about the John Prine set (which is fantastic). There are some other indie bands in the mix (I recommend The National and Mumford and Sons), but most aren't really my taste.…
When i first became a member of Docutunes, I had not heard of the group "Playing for Change. Thanks to Liz and Ken, I watched the video here and I was very moved by their contribution to the World of peaceful change through music.
As our community here grows, I hear something new every day, and thanks to Snyder and Barbara Gray's posts of the individual artists in the group, I "discovered" Rocky Dawuni and his beautiful music and videos, some of which are posted here. My new profile picture…
For all of you serious composters out there, what would be your opinion of composting potato chips, cheese puffs, corn chips, and other 'chip like' items? I've heard both that it's good and bad, but it appears that it's bad because of the grease in the chips. I'm working on a project and trying to figure out if its worth diving into. Basically, I have large amounts of chips to give for composting and/or other purposes. They are all expired, stale, or have been spilled -- so they aren't for… Continue
I am on board this year and enjoying the guitars. Anyone else notice how many people are playing them? This is the point I begin to watch...12 and 12....and it seems the quality of contestants is higher. Simon is softer, I have no idea who Kara is...(anyone able to shed some light?) but she has very insightful comments.....and Ellen adds a lovely softness. All in all I think this years' group is a tough one to predict....cheers all!
Liz and Ken and my mom, Trudy Taylor and I are going to Chapel Hill, North Carolina starting on Feb 9 to celebrate three generations of Taylor women. On Feb 9, Trudy will be interviewed by Dr. Etta Pisano, the new dean of the UNC Medical School. They will discuss the days when my father returned to the University, where he had been an undergraduate, after medical school in Boston to help to build the Med School from a two year facility to a full fledged four year program. He eventually became… Continue
Thirty-two oil paintings on canvas form an art exhibit called “Silencios”, which was recently on display at “Todo Arte” Gallery in Urdesa part of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Servio Zapata, the Ecuadorian artist, spent a year and a half on these oil paintings. His desire is to express a passion for peace with scenes of trees, hills, waterfalls, beaches, and most of all, the tropical forest. The detailing of the trees is… Continue
